Craps

Classic craps table with pass line, don't pass, come, field, place, and hardway bets.

About this game

Craps is the classic American dice game, free to play in your browser at Ice Cheetah. Two six-sided dice are rolled per round and the table state advances through pass / don't pass / come / don't come / odds / place / hardways / proposition bets — the full bet menu used in Las Vegas. The shooter is you; the simulated dice come from a verifiable RNG seeded fresh per round. Every wager is play-money virtual Dollars. Craps has the deepest betting menu of any casino game, but only a small subset of bets is mathematically smart, which is what our paytable display teaches as you play.

How to play

  1. Place a Pass Line bet before the come-out roll.
  2. Roll the dice. 7 or 11 wins instantly (natural). 2, 3, or 12 loses (craps). Any other number becomes the point.
  3. After a point is set, keep rolling until you hit the point again (Pass wins) or roll a 7 (Pass loses, dice change hands).
  4. While a point is set, you can add Odds behind the Pass Line — the only bet in the casino with zero house edge.
  5. Place / Come / Hardways / Proposition bets are available alongside Pass / Don't Pass for variety.

Tips and strategy

  • Pass Line + free odds is the lowest-house-edge bet on the table — stick to it.
  • Don't Pass is mathematically slightly better than Pass, but socially awkward at a real table.
  • Avoid proposition bets (Any 7, Hardways, etc.) — house edges range from 9% to 16%.
  • Hot streaks are illusions; the dice have no memory between rolls.
  • Set a session bankroll and walk after a 50-100% gain or 50% loss — don't chase.

History and context

Craps descends from the Old English dice game Hazard, brought to New Orleans in the early 19th century by French settlers. The modern American version was standardized in the 1900s by dice maker John H. Winn, who introduced the Don't Pass option to balance the game. Military bases popularized craps during WWII, and Las Vegas elevated it to its current form in the 1950s.
