Classic Baccarat

Punto Banco table with Player, Banker, and Tie wagering options.

About this game

Classic Baccarat is the high-roller's favorite, recreated in browser as a free play-money game. Each round you bet on Player, Banker, or Tie, and two hands of two cards are drawn following baccarat's strict drawing rules — no decisions, no skill, just mathematical probability. The closest hand to 9 wins. We deal from an eight-deck shoe with a deterministic shuffle so every coup is verifiable. Banker bets win slightly more often than Player and pay a 5% commission; Tie pays 8:1 but is statistically the worst bet on the table.

How to play

  1. Place a bet on Player, Banker, or Tie.
  2. Two cards are dealt to each side. 10s and face cards count zero; aces count 1; only the unit digit of the total matters.
  3. If either side has a natural 8 or 9, the round ends.
  4. Otherwise, the third-card rules trigger automatically based on the Player's total. No player decisions are needed.
  5. Closest to 9 wins. Banker wins pay 0.95:1 (5% commission), Player wins pay 1:1, Tie pays 8:1.

Tips and strategy

  • Banker is the marginally best bet; the 5% commission still leaves a lower house edge than Player.
  • Avoid the Tie bet — it has the worst odds on the table.
  • There is no skill component — patterns and 'streaks' are statistical noise.
  • Set a session limit; baccarat moves fast and bankrolls erode quickly without discipline.

History and context

Baccarat is one of the oldest casino games, with origins in Italy in the late 1400s. It crossed to France in the late 15th century where it became a favorite of the aristocracy. Modern Punto Banco (the version played here) standardized in 1950s Cuba and reached Las Vegas in the 1960s, where it remains the highest-stakes table in most casinos.
